Being an actor seems like the dream job to many; they get to star as iconic and brilliant characters doing what they love, however, what we don’t think is how the wrong role can take them down the wrong path in their careers.
Actors will always be remembered for a certain role they took and, sometimes, this isn’t a good thing. Here are a few film roles that ruined actors’ careers.
Alicia Silverstone – Batman & Robin (1997)
Alicia Silverstone will be remembered by many as the lead star in the hit film Clueless, or as the teenager who starred in the rock band Aerosmith’s music videos for the songs ‘Crazy’, Cryin’, and ‘Amazing’. However, her role as Batgirl won her a Razzie award for worst supporting actress. Many believe her role in Batman & Robin foiled her chance at reaching her stardom potential.
Adam Sandler – Jack and Jill (2011)
Adam Sandler has always seemed like a marmite actor to many. Fans adore him and find his films incredibly humorous, such as Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy and The Wedding Singer, whilst others can’t bear to watch anything the actor stars in. But, the 2011 film Jack and Jill is one even his biggest fans couldn’t comprehend. This film is one of the most hated of all time, earning ten Razzie awards. This is also the first film to win every category at the awards show and to achieve one of the lowest scores of 2011 on Rotten Tomatoes with 3%.
Halle Berry – Catwoman – (2004)
Halle Berry was one of the stand out stars in 2001 after winning an Oscar for her brilliant performance in Monsters Ball. She could have had almost any role she wanted, and she chose to play Catwoman. The 2004 Batman spinoff went down badly with audiences, with some fans even suggesting she should return her Academy award! The film received four Razzie awards, and after this, she almost disappeared from leading roles.
Mike Myers – The Love Guru – (2008)
Mike Myers was a huge name following the successes of Wayne’s World, Austin Powers, and Shrek, but no one can forgive him for bringing The Love Guru to our screens. This film, which he not only starred in but also produced and directed, was a disaster for the actor and hit his career incredibly hard. It earned him three Razzies for his acting, directing, and producing and, since its release, he hasn’t achieved the success he once had.
Geena Davis – Cutthroat Island – (1995)
Geena Davis is an Oscar winning actress who has starred in huge blockbuster hits, such as Thelma & Louise, Beetlejuice, and The Fly, to name a few. But, it was her role in this 1995 film that really knocked her career. Having a $98 million budget, it only made $10 million, giving it the unwanted pleasure of being the worst financial loss by a film. She did win a Golden Globe in 2005 for her portrayal as the first female President of The United States in Commander and Chief, but many won’t let her forget this flop.
