It was during the 80s and 90s that the \u2018video wars\u2019 were at their peak. New shops sprang up where you could rent or buy films. You could watch them as many times as you wanted, and you could now keep them. Presents were made easier as requests for film titles rocketed and new video rental stores sprang up everywhere. Better technology meant you could watch one channel and record another, whilst the younger generation became experts at recording shows and timing the \u2018cut\u2019 perfectly so to not record the adverts. The introduction of home-movies exploded and people were sharing family memories.<\/p>\n
Initially, two types of video formats came out, Betamax and VHS, but it was VHS that won out, with over 60% of the market share by the late 1980\u2019s. New laws were introduced, such as the Video Recordings Act 1984, stating that all commercial video recording for sale or hire (in the UK) must have a \u2018classification\u2019. VHS became the \u2018home movie\u2019 choice.<\/p>\n

With the introduction of DVDs, the sale and popularity of videos crashed, leaving many in second-hand stores.
