DVDs have been\naround since 1999, when they were launched, and we believe they will never\nactually go away. Even with the\npopularity of streaming services, DVDs still play a very important role in\nmodern society, and we can’t see that changing anytime soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While streaming is now a popular way to watch content, DVDs are still\nincredibly useful. They don\u2019t require the use of the internet, which is a\nmassive advantage \u2013 if the internet is down or you don\u2019t have Wi-Fi for some\nreason, you can\u2019t watch your films and shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a DVD, however, you can simply pop it in and enjoy your favourite\ncontent. DVDs can also provide you with a higher resolution; live streaming,\nbecause it depends on the quality of the signal and the speed of the broadband,\ncan lead to visual issues. For instance, the movie may start to buffer or\nfreeze a lot, or the overall quality of the image can be pixelated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to this, if you have children, DVDs allow them to watch\nage-appropriate content without having to go on the internet, so you don\u2019t have\nto worry about parental controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aesthetic Appreciation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many people\nappreciate DVDs in regard to their physical appearance as well, especially the\ncover artwork and the sleek disc. Being able to physically hold the content\nyou\u2019re about to watch is a small pleasure that makes the experience even\nbetter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also tend to\nbe fascinated with vintage technologies, as is the case with vinyl records, for\ninstance. While the DVD is not that old and still serves a huge purpose in our\nlives, that \u2018retro\u2019 aesthetic appreciation is still relevant when considering the\nDVD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Growing a Collection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Movie buffs love\nto build a collection and will never just accept digital content. This means\nthat they tend to buy DVDs because they can physically see the collection\ngrowing. DVDs are affordable and it\u2019s impossible not to feel pride when looking\nat a carefully picked selection of DVDs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many,\nbuilding a movie collection is truly a hobby, and being able to see it and\norganise it whenever they want is what attracts them to DVDs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also\nimportant to mention that companies often release collectors\u2019 editions as well,\nwhich includes special boxes and extra merchandise \u2013 building a DVD collection\nis even more appealing because of this!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also\nfind a lot of bonus content when you purchase a DVD so, if going behind the\nscenes and watching a movie with the director\u2019s comments is something that\ninterests you, for example, DVDs are the solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Owning a DVD\ncollection, therefore, is a big part as to why the format will exist for a long\ntime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Owning a Physical Copy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When you watch\ncontent via a streaming service, you don\u2019t actually own the movies or shows.\nYou’re merely \u2018renting\u2019 them. Having physical copies of your content, on the\nother hand, means that you own it, and no one can take it from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may find\nthat a film that was streaming on Netflix not that long ago is no longer there\n\u2013 for example, due to the launch of Disney+, many Marvel movies were removed\nfrom Netflix. This means that, even though you are paying for a service, you\nhave no control over the content provided. If the movie or show are not popular\nor the company is not interested in renewing the rights to stream them, you\nwon’t be able to watch them anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physical copies\nare dependable, so you don\u2019t have this risk and can simply watch your content\nat any time. DVDs also have many advantages over on-demand services because\nthey allow you to watch a movie over and over again without having to pay each\ntime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many Titles Available on DVD<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another thing to\nconsider is that there are a lot of movies and shows available in disc format,\nsuch as those in Blu-Ray. You won\u2019t ever run out of things to watch, especially\nas new content continues to be released on a regular basis as well. This\nclearly shows that DVDs are far from being a thing of the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is so much variety at the store that it\u2019s impossible for streaming\nservices to compete with DVDs in that regard. While services like Netflix and\nAmazon Prime Video do have a lot of content, you\u2019ve probably already\nexperienced wanting to watch a specific movie but being unable to find it\nonline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
